David Mura

David Mura is the author of The Stories Whiteness Tells Itself: Racial Myths & Our American Narratives (Univ. of Minnesota Press, 2023) and A Stranger’s Journey: Race, Identity & Narrative Craft in Writing (Univ. of Georgia Press, 2018). His next book is a memoir of his career as an Asian American artist and activist, Exit, Miss Saigon (Univ. of Minnesota Press, 2026). He’s written four books of poetry and two memoirs, including Turning Japanese (Grove, 2006), about a year in Japan as a third-generation Japanese American. (updated 6/2026)
