Jan Carson

Jan Carson is the author of four novels, including Few and Far Between (Scribner, 2026); three story collections; and two micro-fiction collections. Her novel The Fire Starters (Doubleday, 2019) won the EU Prize for Literature for Ireland, and The Raptures (Doubleday, 2022) was shortlisted for the An Post Irish Novel of the Year and Kerry Group Novel of the Year. Her writing has aired on BBC Radio 3 and 4 and RTE and has been translated into twenty languages worldwide. Carson was the 2025 Seamus Heaney Centre Fellow at Queen’s University Belfast and is a fellow of the Royal Society of Literature. She lives in Belfast, Northern Ireland. (updated 4/2026)
